new climbing gym – Brooklyn Boulders

For those who haven’t been there in a while, CCC closed recently.  Sad to see it go.

But very soon, New York will be home to a very huge new gym in brooklyn called Brooklyn Boulders.

I stopped by the other day to check out how things were coming along.  It is just huge.  The pictures don’t do it justice.  The ceilings look to be close to 40′ high, although they told me 32.  They looked pretty high to me.  And there are a bunch of large rooms.  The space as you walk in is kinda a U shape, with a large lead wall.  Along the side are two additional bouldering rooms, and then through the brooklyn bridge shaped doorway there’s another large room.  All of these areas will be wall to wall climbing with routes everywhere.  Yippee…

Check the site for monthly and yearly membership prices.  The gym is nicely situated a quick 5 minute walk from Atlantic + Pacific station which brings in tons of trains or the Union Street Park Slope station, which is a block away.

new york’s most famous gym

We wrote back in November about New York’s most expensive gym.

This does it one better.  Well, at least New York’s most famous people train there.  That’s Sitaras Fitness, for those not in the know.   It won best personal trainer gym in 2007.  It’s basically your upscale gym for folks who really want the pampering, and sweet surroundings.

New York’s Most Expensive Gym

New York’s most expensive gym is apparently Equinox VIP Sports Club.  I’ve spent some time on one and two week intros at Equinox, and never got a real friendly vibe.  But that’s just me.  Chances are good you’re joining this club for one part fitness, one part club, and one part pampering.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always found that a good workout is never about pampering, but about working hard for  a more fit body, sweating, and putting your nose to the grind.  But hey, if it makes you feel better, cough up the $2 grand per month.  Don’t forget the $5k initiation!!
